I’m Going Travelling!!!

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”

I can’t remember where exactly I heard that, or who said it, but it’s something I heard quite a long time ago but it’s a phrase I’ve only recently begun to understand.

Right now it can’t be more relevant to my life.

Let me explain…

I’ve always been the person who’s lived my life ‘within my comfort zone’. Perhaps it was because I’ve been afraid of what people may think, afraid of rejection. Perhaps it was the ‘fear of the unknown’, or perhaps the fear of failing. I’ve always been the person who likes to be in charge and know there’s a plan in place.

But a wise man, let’s call him Sir Lenny Henry (yes it was really him), once told me and a room full of other interns from the creative industries, that it’s ok if things don’t work out the way you want them to, the first time round.

He said:

“Don’t call anything a failure, call it a learning experience.” – Sir Lenny Henry

So why am I sharing this?

Well, as of next week I’ll be leaping out of that comfort zone of mine as I begin six months of travelling through Southeast Asia. It may be an epic fail and I may completely hate the ‘backpacking’ way of life, but one thing I know for sure is that it’ll be a learning experience.

Not only will it be a test of my limits, it’ll be a test of my fears, hopes and dreams!

How does it feel to fly with the best ?

Every year, at the start of the year I write a list of things I want to accomplish. For the past 4 years travel has always been near the top of my list. I’ve been on long weekend city breaks in Europe, had a nice holiday in the U.S. earlier on in the year, but that’s all it’s ever been, a holiday. So a few months ago, I decided to change things. I decided to make my travelling dream a reality.

Instead of telling myself I can’t go travelling this year because…

1.I haven’t saved enough money,
2. I haven’t got anyone to go with
3. I can’t go because I can’t swim

I woke up one fine sunny day and said to myself I AM going travelling this year‘.

The seed had been planted and the idea of going travelling around Southeast Asia took on a whole journey of it’s own.

I know it certainly won’t be easy but I’m ready to take on that challenge. I’ve never been away from my family for more than a week, nor have I stayed in a hostel before.

It’s going to be a challenge adapting to different environments; not having 24/7 access to wifi; a bed of my own; a toilet and shower of my own; Netflix and an unlimited supply of chocolate at my fingertips, but I’m ready to take on that challenge.

I’m ready to break down the boundaries, leap out of my comfort zone and begin a new journey.

So I’ve created this blog as a way of storytelling my adventure, as well as for my mom, dad family & friends to keep an eye on me and see what I’m getting up to!

I’ll be blogging and vlogging various things I see and do, so if you want to have a little nosey feel free to follow my page, bookmark it if you really want, and join me as I embark on this six month adventure around Southeast Asia.
